Styling the Gaps
Photoshoots, tiny hacks, and a moment to celebrate the in-betweens. This is a newsletter from the solo mom Åsa that is building her illustration business | Volume 2
Hi 👋
Have you ever felt different? Like you didn’t quite fit in? Or struggled with self-doubt?
For years, I carried all of those feelings with me.
Today I’m embracing my differences. This year is my 14th year of living with Alopecia. Right now, I have no eyebrows, and my eyelashes are few enough to count on both hands.
The hair on my head is growing into a short hairdo, but there are still some bald spots — and they’ll probably stay.
After I had my son, my hair started to grow. So now my real hair is short, and when I’m at home, I go without my wig. I guess that’s a good thing — it lets my scalp breathe. I relate to both of my looks:
the classic blond fringe
the short hair without eyebrows

Last Christmas, I wrote my own Christmas song — and got a gift from my brother that I’m finally about to use. He’s helping me take photos and film some content. I’m so excited!
Photoshoot
So at tomorrow’s photoshoot with my brother, I’ll embrace both looks. But you might have figured there is a third look that I also have incorporated in my brand of Typ Åsa. That look is the Big Hair Energy style.
In preparation for the photoshoot, I’ve been gathering images that reflect the mood and energy I want to bring into it.
I like using the app Cosmos. Since I don’t have the creators’ names, I won’t share the photos here. Instead I made a quick drawing with parts of the inspiration.
Showing myself with different hair, shapes, and volumes feels liberating. It’s all me — and that’s something I want to reflect in my business, especially on my homepage typasa.se.
I hope the photoshoot goes well. And I aim for some artsy and fun photos.
The second week’s newsletter (Volume 2) is on the shorter side 🎀 But I’ll end with something I might turn into a weekly thing
Four gaps I’ve made smaller this week:
The gap between time and tech
The gap between ideas and finished work
The gap between alone and together
The gap between doing and celebrating
🎀 The gap between time and tech
If I were a hacker-mom, I’d reprogram every elevator in Sweden to be waiting for me when I arrive — no button-pressing, no waiting, just doors opening on cue like they’ve been expecting me and my stroller.
🎀 The gap between ideas and finished work
I kept painting this week. I followed my four prompts and used Procreate. It wasn’t flashy, but it moved the work forward.
🎀 The gap between alone and together
At the library this week, it was loud, lively and packed with baby energy. But something about being there — among other parents and all that kid chaos — made me feel part of something.
🎀 The gap between doing and celebrating
After seven months, I completed the WIP program with my business coach. We paused. We looked back. And we celebrated what’s been built. More on that another day.
This week I wonder, what would you like to hack? Write me a line if you like. Or ask me a question. I’d love to hear from you.
Remember – Some gaps feel impossible to fill—until you step into them.
Until next time - fill some gaps with joy!

Jag älskar att fira med min coachklienter! Tyckte också att det var så fint, att både vara ensam och tillsammans. Jag jobbar ofta bra på café av den anledningen.
